Media Information Literacy(MIL)

 What is MIL?

A repertoire of competencies that enable students to

understand how the media operate, 

how they construct meaning, how they can be used,

how to evaluate the information they present

Being safe online is important as we must be able to protect ourself from being harmed or targeted by some you may or may not know.

As most of us own at least one social media account do you actually know how to protect your privacy? Protection of privacy includes picture of us being misused or our own private information being targeted by irresponsible individuals.

Being said that I asked my 4DLP Chemistry students to do a PBL on integration of MIL in Chemistry.

They were supposed to do research on the topics of chemistry from their text book and relate to any supporting information about it which of course must be from a reliable source. One student related a news article where  during the 19th century  people lost their lives by actually believing what at first hand what some one said before even looking further into it.
